These are the prints taken from the Collagraph/carborundum boards I created for my 'Infrastructure ' project, I am quite pleased with the results and have named them ' Weavers Loom 1' and ' Weavers Loom 2'.
I wanted to create a haunting atmosphere within the context of Infrastructure to highlight days gone by and I feel that the carborundum works well in achieving this effect.

Experimenting with Carborundum/ Collagraph
So here I have been experimenting by sourcing inspiration from my sketchbook photos from the Annie MacLeod exihibition, an old cotton loom, for my carborundum print, which I have abstracted..
I played around with various different materials in my collagraph using materials such as gauze ,wool, ostrich feathers and even fishnet stockings! Its all a learning experience .

Tor Hildyard, whose figurative printmaking works in Carborundum seem to evoke the haunting feeling that I 'm aiming to achieve within my project.

Research so far...
For my research into Infrastructure I visited the New Lanark Mill and went to see the Annie Mcleod experience. I found the trip very insightful into the way people who worked in the Mill used to live.During the trip I experimented with using various photographic angles, capturing the machinery and surrounding outside area at the Mill.
For me , the Annie McLeod experience (hosted by the ghost of a young worker called Annie McLeod who died there ), helped me gain ideas on how I can take this project forward by emulating the haunting past that industrial buildings can uncover.

Infrastructure collagraph work so far..
I will then layer up my collagraph board by cutting away areas and adding different textures, I am also going to be experimenting with Carborundum, which is a special type of grit that can achieve different tonal areas within the collagraph print.
Infrastructure/ Degree show piece work
Infrastructure ˈɪnfrəstrʌktʃə
noun
noun: infrastructure; plural noun: infrastructures
1. the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g.
buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.
"the social and economic infrastructure of a country"
Origin
In this project I am aiming to investigate the theme Infrastructure
through printmaking processes
I am going to visually research roads, industrial buildings, mechanical
machinery
For my practical based studio work I will be using various printmaking
processes such as
-Intaglio
-Monoprint
-colllagraph
-Carborundum
In my
work I will be aiming to convey my chosen theme through a series of prints, and
create a piece or pieces of printmaking art which reflects the level of study I
have undertaken in Printmaking throughout my degree so far.
I feel it is important to socially reflect on the change in
traditional Infrastructure that modern development has brought about. Therefore
I will be documenting the traditional industrial disused warehouses/ buildings
/ machinery and road networking systems that have declined in use and formed
the journey to our now more ‘cyber existence’.
I will be aiming to communicate these ideas through Print.
